3 Things

the spoken word, the unkind thought, the misused hour - Anonymous

A pretty good reason for a Road Trip this summer

WS thoughts

I really wish they had updated that Nike commercial last night after the Sox won it all.

What the heck was Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore doing on the field !!??

Does Manny really get to go to DisneyWorld ? Or is that just the NFL ?

Why do reporters have to ask about next year?

I can't believe they really did it. (And had fun doing it too...)

10/27/04 - "It was destination"

8:33 -- Here comes Foulke, who's been lights-out all month, prompting McCarver to gush, "It has been a post-season ... where ordinary Foulke ... has become extraordinary Foulke." Somewhere, Jim Nantz is nodding in approval.

The Choice - The New Yorker Magazine

Apparently, the New Yorker has never previously endorsed a candidate in any American election...until now.

World's Oldest Man Cheering for Red Sox

Reminded that researchers regard him as the world's oldest man, he said, "I don't believe it. And I ain't going to die just to satisfy them."

World Series balls

I'm waiting until the final out...but this is a must have if they win it all !

"Heidi low," she replied.

Subterranean Homesick Blues

You don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows...

Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
Get dressed, get blessed
Try to be a success
Please her, please him, buy gifts
Don't steal, don't lift
Twenty years of schoolin'
And they put you on the day shift
Look out kid
They keep it all hid
Better jump down a manhole
Light yourself a candle
Don't wear sandals
Try to avoid the scandals
Don't wanna be a bum
You better chew gum
The pump don't work
'Cause the vandals took the handles

The Fall of the House of Yankee

Poetic justice...

"What is left is a team of over-priced and under-performing fat cats. A team of poorly constructed all-or-nothing home run hitters who swing from the heels and think from the hip."

I could read these headlines all day long...actually, I have ! Posted by Hello

1918 - 2004 Just Do It

I have to admit, I got a little misty when this came on after the Sox game last night.

I wonder what the Yankees version looked like ?

Bill Simmons - Red Sox Independence Day

This guy gets it...always has

"The top of the ninth yielded another insurance run of Gordon, who will be covered in blankets, duct-taped and thrown off one of Steinbrenner's yachts some time this winter. "

Imagery...Country style

She left the suds in the bucket, and the clothes hangin' out on the line.

Schilling's Gutty Comeback Sets Up a Game 7 for the Ages

"With the Knights trailing by two runs in the bottom of the ninth, Roy Hobbs, bleeding from a bullet wound, grimaces through pain as he steps into the batters box. We see a closeup of the blood on his uniform. Then we see close-ups of his teammates on the bases, Pop Fisher in the dugout, Iris Gaines praying in the stands, the relief pitcher Youngberry, the catcher and Hobbs. The crowd roar builds. Youngberry rears back and fires...

Hobbs swings and hits a long fly to right -- it's going, it's going, it's . . . a foul ball. The crowd slumps in disappointment. Dejected, Hobbs turns around and starts to trot back to home plate." - final scene of The Natural as reported on ESPN.com

You know what happens next.

SCHILLING'S PERFORMANCE WAS EVEN BETTER !!!!

The Five People You Meet in Heaven

"But all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time."

Game 1 - (10-7 Yanks) could've been worse

Call me crazy, but the loss last night by Sox was not as bad as it seemed. I mean, our pitcher could barely walk and we almost won the game. And that was by far the best Yankee pitcher on the roster. In other words, that was our worst possible outing and their best possible outing and it still came down to the final few outs.

The game would have been even closer if you take away a few "Manny Plays" in left...

Hopefully, Pedro can get it going tonight. I think he needs to plunk someone in the first inning just to get his juices going !

NBC adds 5-second delay to NASCAR coverage

The moral of the story...if you win the race, don't say sh*t.

Seems kind of silly to me to expect that I guy that just risked his life for 3 hours driving 150 MPH won't be a little emotional after getting out the car. If they didn't jam a camera in their faces the second the safety net drops from the window, they wouldn't have this problem.

With all that's wrong with the world...and broadcast on TV, does a little slip like this even matter ?

Let's Go Red Sox !

I just have a good feeling about how these guys are playing. They seem
loose and having fun...of course winning helps that too. Let's take the
game tonight and let the Twins and Yanks beat themselves up for the next
week or so.

What I'm reading...The Art of Breaking Glass

I'd seen this on the bookshelf at work for 4 years before I remembered to pick it up and take it home. I was always intriqued by the title. It reminded me of the scene in The Wall where the guys smashes up his room and then puts all the broken pieces together into some strange pattern.

Just started it a few nights ago...pretty good so far.

DAY TRIPS; Kerouac's Trail Before He Hit the Road

Free registration required:

NIGHT descends on the crumbling storefronts and tenements, falling in the space between buildings and shedding gloom over the rooftops. Beside the whirring traffic, the volunteer tour guide, Paul Marion, stands on the corner, holding a copy of Jack Kerouac's novel ''Dr. Sax.'' In a soft voice, Mr. Marion reads: ''The other night I had a dream that I was sitting on the sidewalk on Moody Street, Pawtucketville, Lowell, Mass., with a pencil and paper in my hand saying to myself 'Describe the wrinkly tar of this sidewalk.' ''

As economy improves, job dissatisfaction is on the rise
